Namibians are second when it comes to beer consumption in the world and there is no slowing us down now.

To continue with our love for beer, Windhoek will host the country’s first ever craft beer festival next month. The Hop Heads Craft Beer Festival will take place on 8 September at the United Sports Field (Dros) in Olympia. The whole festival will be a celebration of what beer means to us.

The event will introduce different craft beers to the public and educate them at the same time. Festivalgoers will have the opportunity to taste the different flavours craft beers offer.

Companies like CBC, Darling, Devil’s Peak, Striped Horse, Boston, Drifter, Tholch, Camelthorn and Namib Dunes will exhibit their products at the event. Beer will not be the only craft products on-show.

Crafted beverages like Musgrave Gin, Wilderer Gin, Wixworth Gin, and Desolate Gin from Walvis Bay will be available. Parow Brand and Jägermeister will also be present. LED will also be selling hand-crafted leather products.

The food will also be have a crafty look and taste, with Andy’s, Klein Windhoek Guest House and Seapride Foods satisfying stomachs. Festival-goers will also have the opportunity to indulge in waffles from Love It! and fried ice-cream from Taste Bud.

Leoni Cohen-Velida, one of the organisers of the festival said Hop Heads will boast some live musical performances, as well as beer pong competitions. The general public will also be allowed to play beer pong, with tables set up on the grounds.

“We came up with this idea a few years ago to bring to Namibia craft beers and the events that revolve around them. It was a concept we played with for a while and felt that this was simply the year to make it happen,” Cohen-Velida said.

There will also be a dedicated kids’ entertainment area to provide some family fun. Other entertainment in the form of music will also be at the event. Artists like ShenFM, Pierre Pienaar and Vaugh Ahrens will take the stage, while 99FM will provide music between the live acts.

Tickets are already on sale and can be purchased on Events Today.
