Jazz, good food, friends and Windhoek will be on everyone’s lips in November as the Windhoek Jazz Festival was recently launched.
The Capital will once again host one of the biggest jazz events in the country on 3 November, the musical show will go down at the Independence Stadium. The City of Windhoek (CoW) will once again partner with various local companies to make the event a reality.
This year international artists like, Zonke, The Soil and Catarina Duarte will the stage. They will be joined by local artists, Lize Ehlers, Elemotho, Suzu Eises, Percival Rinquest, Sigera Jazz Band, Sedney Haufiku and Damas Fusion.
Councillor of the City of Windhoek, Joseph Kauandenge said that jazz is the one music genre that unites people from all walks of life. He said that this year the event will only get bigger and better.
“As a musician and also the chairperson of the tourism, culture and public relation committee, I promise you that this year we will ensure that you remain on your feet as you dance the night away,” Kauandenge said.
Minister of education, arts and culture, Katrina Hanse-Himarwa will serve as the patron of the Windhoek Jazz Festival. She said that it was an honour to be part of the event and commended the organisers and sponsors.
Hanse-Himarwa said jazz music is a growing brand in Namibia to which many can relate. She said the event’s growth over the years is a testament to the love of the music genre.
“The hosting of the Windhoek Jazz Festival therefore continues to significantly contribute to the uplifting Windhoek’s status as a vibrant and artistic city as it transforms into becoming a SMART and Caring City by the year 2022,” Hanse-Hmarwa said.
She also took time to thank the sponsors for their contribution and said that the event cannot be possible without them. City of Windhoek, Windhoek Lager, Standard Bank, Glenlevit, the National Art Council of Namibia, Air Namibia, Adford, the Portuguese Embassy and 99 FM are the main sponsors of the event.
